About 350 million people suffer from depression,cure – improving social life
Mood disorders are a growing public health problem worldwide and it is assumed that more than 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression.Studies have found that social support and friends can have a positive impact on the situation of people with mental health problems.
However, the sad news and happy stories that we hear from a friend can change our emotions and thus positive and negative moods can spread like an infection.
To scrutinize expansion, and thus the change of emotions among friends, scientists from the University of Manchester and Warwick looked at more than 2,000 adolescents from American high schools.
After registering a number of their classmates and whether and how depressed they were,participants were followed for one year to study the way in which mood affects others.
After the data collected, scientists have created a model of spreading mood on social networks, and in a similar way to that epidemiologists study the spread of infectious diseases.
“In the study,care was taken not to disturb the methodology is something called homophilic – the tendency to socialize with people who are like us, which would affect the final result of the research,” explains study leader Edward Hill.
After completing the research, it was discovered that depression is spread among friends, as opposed to a positive, cheerful mood, and in people who have had a large enough number of cheerful friends, the risk of depression was significantly lower, while on the other hand increased chance of recovery from this mental disorder.
“Here we observed a strong influence of social life.” said scientist Dr. Thomas House, pointing out that the increased mingling effective way to combat depression.
